Tripura minister seeks easy transit for bamboo in NE

AGARTALA: Tripura forest minister Jitendra Choudhury sought easy transit of bamboo and better collaboration among the northeastern states while speaking at the roundtable on Bamboo Transit and Regulatory Regime in North East India on Wednesday.

He said lifting restrictions on interstate movement of bamboo in the northeast will attract investments in the bamboo sector, which will help improve the skills and earning potential of the forest dweller community. He suggested a meeting of the forest officials of the region to resolve relevant issues and added that investment in the Tripura bamboo park is taking a hit due to the existing transit system and regulatory regime.

The roundtable also suggested that a mechanism be created for issuing certificates of origin besides use of GPS technology and online verification of permits.
