Replying to a query of opposition MLA Gopal Roy, he said a total of 710 people had chosen premature death.
To another query Mr Sarkar said cases of bride-burning had touched the peak in 2011 in comparison to the previous two years.
The rate of crime against women had touched 110 while 127 molestation cases were registered over the year.
At least 30 rape cases had been registered in the city in 2011, while the number rose to 73 in the state from August 11 till December 31.
However, the incidence was higher touching 40 in 2009 and 2010. The number of child-rape cases was 5 in the city in 2011, whereas, it was higher at 8 in 2010 and 7 in 2009.
